It’s funny how similar questions show up in droves in my inbox. Trust me when I say, I get asked about sizing up toddler’s shoes so often though! My daughter went through three whole shoe sizes in three months, and it was tough to budget for shoes I knew would support her while also not breaking the bank!

As your little one learns to walk, they primarily utilize larger muscles groups and with practice, over time they begin to strengthen and enhance the smaller muscle groups. One of these tiny muscle groups is responsible for lifting the toes during walking and until it gets stronger, can cause tripping over those tiny little toes. I suggest not sizing up toddler’s shoes so that we do not run the risk of increased trips and falls so that they can further engage in those higher level activities.
Once your little one is confidently walking and running, you can safely size up a half size to get a bit longer wear and often their foot growth slows a bit at that time, too! I shared some tips on how to measure your toddler’s foot to be sure they’re in the right size here!
